A Brief Report of the Connection Sphere Performance

written by Deanna Bae   Feb 24th, 2025

For the President’s Day performance at Mission Pines Rehabilitation Center on Feb 17th 2025, the atmosphere was generally upbeat with most, if not all, of the residents participating in the craft activities chosen for that performance. There were about 25 individuals present in the hall during the performance. There were no clear disparities in participation between the genders of the individuals present. Something else I noticed was that most of the residents were much more talkative and responsive than other individuals I had come across at different rehabilitation centers. Most of the individuals present that day were also able bodied for the most part. For example, the man I was working with was very much lively and willing to speak about himself, whether I had prompted him to or not. However, it should be noted that some residents working with other members of the Connection Sphere were less responsive with some also having intellectual or developmental disability (IDD).

Regarding the piano pieces played at the performance, as expected, most of the residents favored music that was familiar to them. This familiar music ranged anywhere from famous pop songs from the 60s or 70s to famous classical pieces by composers like Debussy or Beethoven. As for the crafts, more eye-catching stickers with sparkles or reflective surfaces were popular among the individuals who participated. This was likely due to these stickers being more noticeable to the residents’ eyes. All in all, it was a successful performance with a high 2 satisfaction rate amongst the residents who participated in the crafts as well as the residents who only listened to the music.

The Connection Sphere is a 501(c) non-profit licensed organization in Nevada (#...)
