Estimating the cost of asthma: moderating effect of race/ethnicity on the relationship between asthma severity and the direct cost
Kim et al. J Asthma. 2025. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39484925/

The published article on Estimating the Cost of Asthma follows the problem of financial insecurities in racial/ethnic minorities with asthma while highlighting the lack of research behind this relationship. Research has not only shown the relationship between increasing asthmatic-related medical costs based on asthma severity, but also with older, racial/ethnic minorities. Moving forward, interventions based on reducing cost burdens for asthmatic patients should be set while bringing attention to the racial disparities in healthcare.

The incremental cost was greater among African American and Asian patients for ED visits, indicating the moderating effect of race/ethnicity.

Comparative effectiveness of telehealth vs. in-person primary care for the adults living with intellectual disabilities/obesity in State of Nevada

This study compares the effectiveness of telehealth to in-person primary care for adults with intellectual disabilities/obesity, a high-risk population in Nevada that faces many health risks due to limited access to providers. Data has found Telehealth to provide several key advantages in care delivery, particularly in obesity counseling and transitional care management, compared to in-person care, even though hospitalization rates were similar. Moving forward, Telehealth is expected to expand across underserved populations to help improve both health policy and patient outcomes.
